The brief for the house was quite straightforward, a house that was bright and colourful and budget friendly with some references to the client’s origin. The furniture was customized to optimize space and was made with reclaimed wood wherever possible to not only cater to the budgetary need but also bring a warmth to the space.

One of the bedrooms was used primarily as the study while the other two as the main bedrooms. The layout was quite open with all the spaces opening into the dining space, but the critical feature of the design was the rotating TV set that created a small partition between the living and dining. It allowed for the residents to have the freedom of using the television from either space.

The pop colours were a conscious decision to make the spaces bright and also because they were synonymous with the colours used in the handmade Rajasthani tiles that were used in the house.

A lot of emphasis was laid on ensuring that the house was budget friendly, hence certain elements like the centre table, main door, kitchen partition and a few other furniture elements were actually made from salvaged wood. Hand painted tiles were used in some areas to create the Rajasthani connect while the pop colours, namely yellow and blue, did the rest to liven the spaces.
